Data Updates & Refresh Buttons
What do the different refresh icons in the La Crosse View App indicate?
Wi-Fi displays and gateways collect sensor data and pass it to our cloud servers, where it can accessed for free using our La Crosse View app on your mobile device. Update intervals will vary by product and the current conditions/changes the sensor is exposed to. The latest version of the app uses a series of Refresh Buttons to indicate the various ages of the data.
Refresh Button
Displayed on all device pages indicating that the device is receiving regular updates.
The latest data from the server loads when opening the app or swiping to this device/sensor page. If your app is left open, if you have been viewing the device's page for awhile, or if you suspect some new data might be available on the server, you can tap the icon to retrieve the latest server data.
Refresh Alert Button
Displayed on device pages that have likely missed a regular communication; data will also appear in dark gray. It is not abnormal for an occasional miss of a data point for any number of reasons, but If you see this regularly, it might indicate that the sensor has a low battery, is far from the gateway/weather station or there is some network problem preventing regular updates from making it to the server. See the Red Refresh Alert button below for additional troubleshooting steps.
NOTE: Please be patient when first opening or refreshing your app screens. It can take several seconds for the app to retrieve the most recent data from the server so the icon may take a moment to update. You can also see the last update time at the bottom of the device's page.
Red Refresh Alert Button
Displayed on device pages that haven't received an update in quite some time; the last received data will appear in dark gray. Tapping this button will retrieve the latest data from the server. If there is no newer data from the sensor on our servers then additional troubleshooting will be required.
- The sensor's batteries could be dead -> check the batteries and replace if need be
- The sensor could be out of range of the gateway/weather station -> If connected via a weather station, check the station display to see if the sensor is being seen by the display. If not, refer to your station's user manual for additional troubleshooting steps. If the weather station is showing updated sensor data, proceed to #3.
- The gateway/weather station may not be connected to the internet. -> If connected via a weather station, press and release the SET button on your weather station display to see a message regarding the status of your connection to Wi-Fi. Refer to your station's user manual for the messages and additional troubleshooting.
Note: Tapping these buttons may return the same result if the server doesn't have more recent data. There is no direct communication between the app/server and home sensors/displays/gateways. Please try the troubleshooting steps above and reach out to our support team with any questions HERE.
