Step 1: Power Up Your Sensors

If you have a new connected weather station, it likely includes outdoor sensors.

  • Install new batteries in all sensors and keep them near the display until they connect.
  • Keep sensors nearby throughout setup in case you need to add sensor IDs manually in the app (see Step 8).

Important: Use reputable alkaline batteries for best performance.

Add-On Sensors

  • If you purchased extra sensors:

Step 2: Power Up Your Display

Batteries

  • Remove the insulation tab from the bottom of the display.
  • If your model uses AA or AAA batteries, install fresh alkaline batteries for backup only. (Avoid other battery types.)

Power Cord

  • Plug the power adapter into a wall outlet, then into the display.
  • Wi-Fi connected displays require the provided power cord.

Step 3: Confirm Display is Receiving Sensor Data

Before connecting to Wi-Fi, ensure each sensor is sending data:

  • Check that dashes have turned into numbers on the display.
  • If your product has no external sensors, skip this step.

Add-On Sensors

  • Extra sensor data may appear only in the Extra Sensor area or in the app.
  • Displays with this feature have an EXTRA button. Press to cycle through all added sensors.
  • If you don’t see your sensor, consult the Sensor/Display Compatibility Chart.

Step 4: Put Display into Configuration Mode

To connect to Wi-Fi, the display must be in Configuration (Provisioning) Mode:

  • On initial startup, the display searches for Wi-Fi for about 1 hour, indicated by a flashing Wi-Fi icon.
  • If the Wi-Fi icon is no longer flashing:
    • Hold + and - buttons until the icon flashes again (this clears old connections and focuses the station to search again).

Note: If your model has a Wi-Fi button on the back, press it to enter Configuration Mode.

Step 5: Download the La Crosse View App

  • Available for iOS and Android.
  • A mobile device is required for Wi-Fi setup and app use.
  • Download from the App Store or Google Play.

Step 6: Create an Account or Log In

  • Open the app and create an account or log in.
  • Follow on-screen prompts to confirm display and sensors are ready.
  • Returning users adding a device should review How to Add & Remove Devices.

Step 7: Add Display to Your La Crosse View Account

Scan Your Display’s Device ID

While following the app prompts, you will be asked to scan or manually enter your La Crosse Technology display’s Device ID.

  • The Device ID is printed on a white sticker on the back of the display, typically near the La Crosse View logo.

If scanning fails:

  • Manually enter the Device ID in the app.
  • Double-check the characters:
    • Lowercase “l” vs. number “1”
    • Uppercase “B” vs. number “8”
  • The Device ID is case-sensitive, so type it exactly as shown.

Troubleshooting:

  • If you receive an error such as:
    • Device Not Found
    • Cannot Add Device because it is owned by another user
  • Or if the app shows an incorrect product image or ID, visit our FAQ page.

Name Your Device and Assign a Location

  • Create a name for the display (e.g., Living Room Display).
  • Assign it to a Location (e.g., Home, Office).
  • If this is your first product, you’ll need to create a new Location.
  • You can rename devices and reorganize locations later.

For tips on naming and organizing, visit our Device and Location Management Guide.

Enter Country, Postal Code, and Review “Opt Out” Option

  • This allows your display to receive accurate forecast, time, and date information from the internet.
  • If you do NOT want these services, check the Opt Out box at the bottom of the page. (Most users leave this unchecked.)

To change these settings later, visit Connected Display Settings.

Connect to Wi-Fi

  1. Ensure your mobile device is connected to your home Wi-Fi (shown at the top of the app screen).
  2. Use a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi or Guest Wi-Fi band for best compatibility.
  3. Enter your Wi-Fi password in the app and tap CONFIGURE.

Connection Tips:

  • The process may take a few tries depending on your router setup.
  • The app will guide you with troubleshooting steps if needed.
  • For more help, visit our Wi-Fi Questions Page.

What Happens Next

Once connected (and if you did not opt out), within a few minutes you should see updates on your display:

  • Wi-Fi Indicator becomes solid.
  • Time & date update automatically.

You may also see additional internet-powered features (depending on your model):

  • Chance of precipitation values
  • Daily high/low temperature predictions
  • Outdoor temperature
  • Wind direction
  • Additional forecast icons

Note: Not all displays include every feature listed above. To check your model’s capabilities, see your product manual.

Step 8: Add Sensor Data to the App

  • After Wi-Fi setup, within 15 minutes, you should see Add Device notifications in the app (Red Cloud icon).
  • Tap the icon to add sensors, name them, and assign locations.
  • If sensors do not appear, add them manually using How to Add & Remove Devices.
